Dr. Anya Brown is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Evolution and Ecology (EVE) at UC Davis based at the Bodega Marine Lab. She is interested in marine community ecology in temperate and tropical systems and is particularly interested in how hosts, microbes and the environment interact. Fun facts: In her spare time she likes to kayak, swim, and potlucks!
Graduate students and Post doctoral scientists
Dr. Amy Briggs is the Center for Population Biology Post Doctoral Fellow she is co-advised by Dr. Jay Stachowicz and Dr. Marissa Baskett. website: http://amyabriggs-ecology.weebly.com/http://amyabriggs-ecology.weebly.com/
Serina Moheed is graduate student in the Graduate Group in Ecology and co-advised by Dr. Jay Stachowicz. Serina is from Ithaca, NY and is currently still deciding if the west coast is the best coast. She’s interested in studying marine disease dynamics in seagrasses, and the interactions between host, pathogen, and the environment. Fun Fact: Serina loves exploring new places, hanging out with friends, and watching the latest rom-com on Netflix. Serina is also a Nancy Foster Scholar!
Shelby Penn is a Joint Doctoral Program in Ecology graduate student co-advised by Dr. Matt Edwards at San Diego State University. She is interested in how host-microbe interactions in seaweed can have ecosystem-level effects, including in pollutant cycling, settlement cues, and reproductive success. Fun fact: she loves all forms of diving, paddleboarding, hiking, and basking in the sun!
Kenzie Pollard is a graduate student in the Population Biology Graduate Group, co-advised by Dr. Rachael Bay. She is interested in functional role of cryptic species, genomic signatures of range shifts, and phenotypic plasticity in populations of varying genetic diversity. Fun fact: She has a black belt in Taekwondo and used to be an instructor! Website: https://themindfulacademic.blog
Deva Holliman is a graduate student in the Population Biology Graduate Group. She is interested in marine community ecology, local adaptaton, host-microbe interactions and climate change. In the Brown lab she plans to study how host-associated microbial communities support thermal resilience in corals. Fun fact: She loves hiking, surfing, and exploring new places around Davis!
